SAIUCHIN

    • Begin hands at sides, heels together, toes pointing out at 45o angles, facing north. Bow.

    • Saiuchin bow: Left hand chin high palm toward you, back of right fist against left palm (saiuchin position). Rotate inward at elbows lowering hands to obi height.

    • Step out first with left foot and then with right foot into a ready position (feet shoulder width, fists vertical extended forward at belt height).

    • C-step out with right foot into a saiuchin stance facing northwest (deep horse stance with downstretched palms facing knees, toes at 45o angles {west & north in this case}).

    • Bring fingers up to horizontal, right & left pointing at each other. Bring hands slowly towards each other allowing wrists to bend so the backs of your fingers are against each other. Continue the motion up the centerline of your body, then let palms flatten out (in a flat begging position) at forehead height.

    • Curl fingers back into fists and slowly allow knuckles to touch bringing fists back down the centerline of the body. At about belt height, quickly snap the fists downward, each fist directly below its respective shoulder, and snap head to the right (looking northeast).

    • Snap right arm into outward block towards northeast, palm open facing up. Left arm into semi-chamber with open palm up, resting over obi.

    • Rotate right palm downward and pull right hand slowly toward you while pushing left hand slowly ahead.

    • C-step with left foot into a saiuchin stance facing northeast.

    • Snap left arm into outward block towards northeast, palm open facing up. Right arm into semi-chamber with open palm up, resting over obi.

    • Rotate left palm downward and pull left hand slowly toward you while pushing right hand slowly ahead.

    • C-step with right foot into a saiuchin stance facing northwest.

    • Snap right arm into outward block towards northeast, palm open facing up. Left arm into semi-chamber with open palm up, resting over obi.

    • Rotate right palm downward and pull right hand slowly toward you while pushing left hand slowly ahead.

    • Straighten slightly and bring right foot behind left knee facing north, hands in saiuchin position.

    • Step forward with right foot into a right sanshin stance (feet are shoulder-width apart [but at 45o angle, not side-by-side], left foot back toes pointing ahead [north], right foot forward angled in at 45o [toes pointing northwest] knees slightly bent to protect groin), rotate forearms (keeping hands together) into a reverse punch in line with the centerline of your body (left palm still above right fist).

    • C-step back with right foot into a left sanshin stance snapping right elbow into chamber, then perform an elbow strike hitting the left palm which is still extended in front of you.

    • Leaving left palm on right elbow, form a large vertical clockwise circle with right fist (begin at 6:00) ending in a backfist strike to the bridge of the nose of your opponent to the northeast. As you do, step into a right sanshin stance (right foot forward) to the northeast.

    • Step forward with left foot into a saiuchin stance facing southeast (left foot follows northeasterly progress) and execute a downward block to northeast with left fist. Right hand chambered, eyes to the northeast.

    • Step back with left foot, pivoting 180o to the left on right foot, into a saiuchin stance facing northwest and execute a downward block to northeast with right fist. Left hand chambered.

    • Place right palm on left elbow, form a large vertical counter-clockwise circle with left fist (begin at 6:00) ending in a backfist strike to the bridge of the nose of your opponent to the northwest. As you do, step with left foot into a left sanshin stance to the northwest.

    • Step forward with right foot into a saiuchin stance facing southwest (right foot follows northwesterly progress) and execute a downward block to northwest with right fist. Left hand chambered, eyes to the northwest.

    • Step back with right foot, pivoting 180o right on left foot, into a saiuchin stance facing northeast and execute a downward block to northwest with left fist. Right hand chambered.

    • Step back with left foot, pivoting 135o to the left on right foot, into a saiuchin stance facing west and execute a Rising Sun block (left forearm over right at chest height with palms open, sweep left hand back with palm out (west) as if wiping sweat from the left side of your forehead with the back of your hand and stopping with fingers behind left ear, right forearm pivots from elbow swinging right hand down and forward (north) like a pendulum into a downward block, palm facing east) eyes facing north.

    • Step back with right foot, pivoting 180o to the right on left foot, into a saiuchin stance facing east and execute a Rising Sun block (right forearm over left at chest height with palms open, sweep right hand back with palm out (east) as if wiping sweat from the right side of your forehead with the back of your hand and stopping with fingers behind right ear, left forearm pivots from elbow swinging left hand down and forward (north) like a pendulum into a downward block, palm facing west) eyes facing north.

    • Turn body toward north and bring right foot forward slightly to end in a left sanshin stance facing north. Bring right backfist down on left palm in front of you, in a strike to the bridge of the nose.

    • C-step forward with right foot into a right sanshin stance facing north and execute a reinforced uppercut (keeping hands together) and retracting it back. 1st keai point.

    • Pivot counter-clockwise 135o on both feet to end in a left sanshin stance facing southwest. Left arm in outward block position, right arm in downward block.

    • Rotate left wrist clockwise and open grip, so as to grab wrist of the arm you just blocked.

    • Step forward (southwest) with right foot into a saiuchin stance with body facing southeast. Execute a double uppercut with right fist to the southwest while maintaining grip on opponent's wrist with left hand. Rather than retract right fist after 2nd uppercut, swing arm down into a downward block while bringing left arm to chamber.

    • Step back with right foot, pivoting 180o right on left foot, into a saiuchin stance facing northwest and execute a downward block to southwest with left fist. Right hand chambered.

    • Turn towards north and bring right foot westwards in front of left to form a right cat stance (left foot horizontal to you [toes pointing west] with left knee slightly bent and supporting 95% of body's weight, right foot in front of left with toes only touching the floor and right knee raised slightly) facing north. As you move into this position, execute a horizontal elbow strike with right elbow, snapping at the waist and bringing left arm to chamber.

    • Step back with right foot into a left cat stance facing north, executing a horizontal elbow strike with the left elbow, snapping at the waist, right arm coming to chamber.

    • Pivot clockwise 135o on both feet to end in a right sanshin stance facing southeast. Right arm in outward block position, left arm in downward block.

    • Rotate right wrist counter-clockwise and open grip, so as to grab wrist of the arm you just blocked.

    • Step forward (southeast) with left foot into a saiuchin stance with body facing southwest. Execute a double uppercut with left fist to the southeast while maintaining grip on opponent's wrist with left hand. Rather than retract left fist after 2nd uppercut, swing arm down into a downward block while bringing right arm to chamber.

    • Step back with left foot, pivoting 180o left on right foot, into a saiuchin stance facing northeast and execute a downward block to southeast with right fist. Left hand chambered.

    • Turn towards north and bring left foot eastwards in front of right to form a left cat stance facing north. As you move into this position, execute a horizontal elbow strike with left elbow, snapping at the waist and bringing right arm to chamber.

    • Step back with left foot into a right cat stance facing north, executing a horizontal elbow strike with the right elbow, snapping at the waist, left arm coming to chamber.

    • Open left fist to a gripping position as you let it drop behind you and complete 270o of a circle over your head coming to rest over your right elbow (which is still extended).

    • Shuffle forward (north) into another right cat stance and pivoting right arm at elbow to bring right backfist into left palm in front of you, in a bridge-of-the-nose strike. 2nd keai point.

    • Step back with right foot into a left cat stance facing north. Bring fingertips together, palms apart, at face height in front of you, fingertips pointing north. Draw hands toward you and then down the centerline of your body, about 6" out, rotating fingertips up. This should look like a block for reverse punch heading towards your solar plexus.

    • Bring left heel back beside right, toes pointing out at 45o angles, standing erect (facing north) and place hands in saiuchin position. Perform saiuchin bow.

    • Place hands at your sides and bow.
